I came across an excellent photo 5 years ago and I can't find or remember the name of the book it was in.
The photo was of P/O Brian Meaker & F/O Percy Burton taken together during The Battle of Britain.
If anyone knows the picture I am describing which book was it in?
Thanks in anticipation
G

In "249 at war" written by Brian Cull, there are pictures of P/O Bryan Meaker killed in action 27 Sept 1940; and also pictures of P/O Percy Burton in a group photo taken in early Sept 1940. Is this the book you are referring to?

Thanks for the reply Steve, I have 249 at War and am familiar with the pictures you refer to, unfortunately not the one I'm after. The picture I am looking for has been used as the basis for a very nice pencil sketch on the following website (the artist can't remember which book it came from). s104721896.websitehome.co.uk/dcartwork/aviation1.htmI have this feeling that it was a collection of very good RAF photos from WW2 in large HB format, but can't be sure. The detail on the original was very good and looked as if it had been taken only yesterday. G.

Thank you very much for your reply Shelly. I do have 249 at War and the photo it isn't in there. The link to a pencil sketch of it is on the following website : s104721896.websitehome.co.uk/dcartwork/aviation1.htmThe artist can't remember which book it came from. The original photo was of high quality and, if I remember correctly, in a large format HB book. I think it may have been a collection of WW2 RAF pictures, but can't be sure. It looked as if it had been taken only yesterday so if it can be found I think you will find very interesting. I had given up hope of any reply to this post so thanks very much again! G

A somewhat cropped version of the photo is on the front cover of "Battle over Sussex" by Burgess and Saunders (1990) and a larger version appears in Len Deighton's "Battle of Britain" (1980). At the risk of sounding like an anorak the photo is also used as part of a display at Tangmere museum featuring several pilots from 249 squadron.
Regards.

PS, If its the same photo you are looking for, they are both in full flying gear, helmets on, with Mae West's, walking away from a Hurricane in the background.

Belated thanks for the info!
I will look out for 'Gun Button to Fire' by W/Cdr Neil, and yes, as I recall, the view is as you describe it.
